A Story of Survival

127 Hours

I recently watched again James Franco’s movie 127 Hours. It is a true story of canyoneer Aron Ralston who was trapped by a boulder in Blue John Canyon, Utah in April 2003. To cut the story short, in order to survive, he was forced to amputate his own right arm using his dull knife after an almost a week of ordeal in hunger, thirst, and isolation.

Though many of us adventurers may not suffer or wish to suffer the gruesome pain he had, it is still imminent that such accidents are bound to happen no matter how professional you are. And when these occur, you must always be physically and mentally prepared to deal with it.

Note: I have, so far, experienced one survival event during my first climb in Mt. Makiling.
